HAIKU:  LIVING IN THE MOMENT

Margaret Chula lived in Japan for twelve years where she taught creative writing at Kyoto universities. She has published six collections of poetry; most recently, What Remains: Japanese Americans in Internment Camps, done in collaboration with quilt artist Cathy Erickson. Specializing in Japanese poetry, she teaches workshops at universities, Zen centers, and at international poetry conferences. One of her haiku featured on Itoen tea cans distributed throughout Japan. Last year, she was the Poet Laureate for Friends of Chamber Music in Portland, Oregon. She also serves as President of the Tanka Society of America.

We’ll spend the morning reading haiku by Japanese masters and Western poets, followed by some fun writing exercises. After lunch, we’ll walk the labyrinth and the surrounding woods for inspiration. For all levels of writers. Come with an open mind and a bag lunch. Drinks will be provided.
